Al Bernstein Calls McGregor vs. Mayweather Intriguing

Al Bernstein is one of the greatest journalist in the long history of boxing and he is also caught up in the upcoming super fight between UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather.

Speaking of that super fight, the boxing journalist is calling the fight an intriguing one.

“This is an intriguing … probably one of the most intriguing situations that I’ve ever been in in 35 years of broadcasting,” Bernstein told MMA Junkie Radio. “Because this match is way different than anything obviously. Part of the intrigue of it to me is normally in boxing or MMA when promoters say, ‘Oh, we have a match. We’re pretty sure the public is going to be interested in this. Let’s put it out there and promote it.’ This fight kind of started the reverse. This fight started because people seem to want to see it. The fighters themselves stoked the flames. People stoked the flames. And whatever people think of this match and the veracity of it, at the of the day it’s happening because people seem to want to see it.”

Arguably, one of the more intriguing aspects to the fight is that McGregor is making his pro boxing debut and Mayweather is fighting for the 50th time.

Bernstein also feels that despite the Irishman’s status in MMA, the fight is going to be called just like any other boxing match during the broadcast.

“It will be different because of the nature of it,” Bernstein said, “but I don’t feel like we’ll be calling anything other than a boxing match, because that is what they’re doing.”

Conor McGregor versus Floyd Mayweather takes place on Saturday, August 26 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
