The biopic on the late Chris Benoit, inspired by Matthew Randazzo V's book "Ring of Hell: The Story of Chris Benoit & the Fall of the Pro Wrestling Industry," has a new director.
Lexi Alexander, who directed the movie "Punisher: War Zone," is the new director for "Crossface," which covers Benoit
“I was pretty certain I’d stay in TV rather than returning to the feature world, because the material just seems so much better in TV, especially in drama, but then ‘Crossface’ came my way,” Alexander said via Variety. “A heartbreaking, true story about the dark side of wrestling. … I couldn’t say no to that.”
The script is written by Jake Goldberger and Sarah Coulter and the producers are Alex A. Ginzburg and Tony Lee. Ram Getz and Randazzo are executive producers for the biopic.
Alexander also has experience in directing in television, having directed episodes of series like Limitless, Supergirl and Arrow. Alexander also won an Academy Award nomination for her short film "Johnny Flynton.
Benoit was ruled to have committed suicide in 2007 after it was also ruled that he had murdered his wife Nancy Benoit and one of his kids. He was posthumously diagnosed with Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE), a progressive degenerative disease found in people who have had a severe blow or repeated blows to the head. The disease is being revealed to be fairly common in professional boxers and football players who had donated their brains for CTE research.
Benoit was a former WWE United States Champion and a former World Heavyweight Champion.
