UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor is currently in training for his boxing super fight against Floyd Mayweather this August.
McGregor doesn’t just plan on defeating the boxing great, but he also has plans to run Showtime after the fight is over.
“Look, it’s all business here,” McGregor said at a media scrum. “And eventually, I’m going to run Showtime, too, if they want me back in the boxing game once I spank Floyd – because Floyd’s gone. Floyd doesn’t have much left. Then who has Showtime got? They’re going to look to dump him and come after me. So they just better get used to it and get their act together and be very careful with how they treat me.”
Showtime is the longtime pay-per-view partner of Floyd Mayweather and Mayweather Promotions.
The network is also handling the promotional side of things for McGregor vs. Mayweather.
Things took a turn for the worse in the McGregor/Showtime relationship after the MMA fighter believed the network cut his microphone during the Los Angeles portion of their media tour.That lead to McGregor shouting a profanity laced promo towards Showtime executive Stephen Espinoza at the Toronto portion of the tour.
Conor McGregor versus Floyd Mayweather takes place on Saturday, August 26 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
