Contract Deadline Moves Potential Eddie Alvarez/Khabib Nurmagomedov Fight To UFC 206

MMA

It was reported here on Fightful that UFC Lightweight Champion Eddie Alvarez may be defending his championship against Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 205, that is no longer the case.

According to a report filed by Megan Olivi on UFC Tonight, which airs on Fox Sports 1, the champion in Alvarez missed the contract deadline date, so the bout can no longer take place at UFC 205 in New York, New York.

Instead, new bout agreements have been sent out to both the champion in Alvarez and the challenger in Nurmagomedov for a main event spot at UFC 206 this November in Toronto, Canada.

Nurmagomedov has already tweeted about the whole situation, basically stating that he had already signing the contract for both UFC 205 and then UFC 206, he is now waiting on the champion to sign for the UFC 206 title defense.

The wrinkle in the plan may have come from current UFC Featherweight Champion Conor McGregor, who teased on Twitter himself that he was open to challenging Alvarez for the lightweight title at UFC 205, nothing has since come of that, McGregor’s next fight has not been announced as of this writing.

Alvarez won the championship by defeating Rafael Dos Anjos by TKO at UFC Fight Night 90, he has yet to make his first title defense.

Nurmagomedov is currently undefeated as a professional MMA fighter and he also holds a victory over former lightweight champion Rafael Dos Anjos.
