Dan Henderson Wished Fight With Jon Jones Took Place

Dan Henderson has accomplished a lot during his seemingly never ending mixed martial arts career, but capturing the UFC Middleweight Title this weekend at UFC 204 may be his biggest accomplishment yet.

However, there is something that the former PRIDE Light Heavyweight and Middleweight Champion has yet to do, which is to fight current UFC Interim Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones. He was scheduled to do so at the ill-fated UFC 151 event, but Henderson suffered an injury days before the event and the shot to fight Jones has seemingly disappeared altogether.

Champions.co recently conducted an interview with the legendary fighter, who talked about how he got injured and pulled from the fight.

“I trained to fight him, and I was ready to fight him… I got hurt, and I didn’t get a chance to really test myself against him. That would have been a fun moment for me to see how I do,” said Henderson.

Henderson also talked about the career and personal life of former potential opponent Jon Jones, which has been a rocky one.

“(Jones) has since then done even better – he’s screwed up a lot more, too…He is still arguably one of the best pound-for-pound guys out there,” said Henderson.

Henderson also talked about whether or not he would delay his retirement or even come out of retirement to fight Jones at some point in the future.

“No – no…No, I mean, over the years, it’s gotten harder to keep my body in the shape I need to, and I think that’s why I gravitated back down to middleweight. It’s hard to go against the heavier guys, and having (Daniel Cormier’s) fat ass on top of me didn’t help,” said Henderson.

UFC 204 takes place on Saturday, October 8th from the Manchester Arena in Manchester, England with Michael Bisping and Dan Henderson headlining.
