Exclusive: Megan Anderson On Her Frustration Of The UFC Not Doing Anything With The Women's Featherweight Division

MMA

Megan Anderson's name came to the forefront when the UFC announced they were implementing a women's featherweight division and made a fight between Germaine de Randamie and Holly Holm for the right to be the first champion in the division. de Randamie won the fight by a controversial decision to become the champion. After the fight concluded, the thought was de Randamie would defend her title against the No. 1 ranked 145-pound women's fighter in the world, Cris Cyborg. The fight made sense but the champion decided she doesn't want to fight the Brazilian due to the latter's failed drug test in 2011 and when she was provisionally suspended for two months at the end of 2016.

Common sense would have been then to pit de Randamie against the No. 2 fighter in the division, Anderson. And that hasn't happened as well. The Austrailian's name has been in the forefront and a rise in popularity since February and while she's enjoyed the new found fame, she's also frustrated by the fact the UFC hasn't even made a fight in the division.

"It’s been exciting but also frustrating," Anderson told Fightful. "It’s exciting that my name has been thrown around at the top of the division but its also frustrating because nothing is happening."

In the months since UFC 209, the UFC's added a women's flyweight division with the introduction of the weight class being part of the newest season of The Ultimate Fighter which will debut in the fall after tryouts commenced last week in Las Vegas. Adding that in the fact of no new fights being made in her weight class, the Invicta FC featherweight champion is beyond frustrated as she would like to know what the company hopes to do with the division.

"It’s a combination of everything," Anderson exclaimed. "The UFC has a 145-pound division that they haven’t done anything with it except for UFC 209. It’s just frustrating. I know Dana recently that they are going to come out and let everyone know what’s going on with the division. I think we are all waiting to hear what they are going to do because they really haven’t signed anyone in the 145 division. It’s kind of up in the air. Everyone is like what is going on. I think we all want to know what is going on so we can move forward and plan what is going to happen next."

Anderson will fight Helena Kolesnyk in July.
