The recent 10 year anniversary of The Benoit murders has brought the tragedy to the forefront of people's minds.
So maybe it's no surprise that during a Q&A session on his speaking tour of Australia, John Cena had to deal with a delicate query about why the WWE handles the historical record surrounding Chris Benoit the way it does.
John Cena, being the media-trained diplomat that he, had a very reasoned and thoughtful answer.
"Very difficult question, and I'll answer it like this. Often times, we get caught up in a person's ability and their performance - and this transcends WWE - this is a problem in sports. It is also a problem in entertainment. People will do bad things. But if they are good at what they do, sometimes those things are overlooked.
"I don't in believe that. I believe you should take ownership for your actions. All of them. Not just ones that are performed in front of an audience. I think our company's stance on the entire situation set a precedent for athletics, and a precedent for entertaining of taking ownership for your actions."
In the ten years since Benoit murdered his wife and son, then took his own life, WWE has not mentioned him and has seemingly scrubbed him from existence. His matches continue to appear on the WWE Network.
