Triple H Provides Update On Tomasso Ciampa Injury

NXT might have gotten hit with the injury bug to one of its top stars days before a title match at NXT TakeOver: Chicago.

At an NXT house show in Highland Heights, Kentucky, Tommaso Ciampa was injured just minutes into his match and had to be helped to the back after the referee put up the 'dreaded X' sign--used to indicate when wrestler is hurt. Fightful managing editor Sean Ross Sapp was at the event and said his match was called a no contest. Ciampa was in a tag match with partner Johnny Gargano against SAnitY members Eric Young and Alexander Wolfe.

Once Ciampa was in too much pain to continue, the match was called off and Ciampa had to be helped to the back by NXT officials.

Ciampa has been in NXT since 2015, taking part in WWE's Cruiserweight Classic and having a reign as NXT Tag Team Champion alongside Gargano. Ciampa and Gargano are scheduled to face current NXT Tag Team Champions Authors of Pain in a ladder match at NXT TakeOver: Chicago on May 20.

UPDATE: Triple H noted on this morning's conference call that Ciampa sustained a sprained ankle. X-rays were negative for a break and he's feeling much better today.

"He turned his ankle somewhere. As a precaution everything shut down, it stopped, he got out of there. He went for an X-ray last night, there's no break or fracture-- he's got an ankle sprain. When I texted with him this morning, he was feeling better and was up moving around and felt like he was not going to have an issue with it. It was not really bothering him, it was not really as bad as they thought it was.  I'm going to keep a positive frame of mind that he will be there tomorrow," said Triple H.
