Randy Orton Talks Retirement Timeframe, Has "A Handful" Of Title Reigns Left In Him

Randy Orton was a guest on Tom Clark's Main Event podcast recently. During the show, the former 12 time WWE Champion and current Smackdown Tag Champ spoke with Clark about how long he'd like to wrestle before retirement and whether he thinks he's got it in him to make a run at Ric Flair's 16 Time Champion Record.

Orton's been wrestling in WWE for going on 15 years, and if it's up to him, he'd like that run to continue until he's got a cool quarter-century under his belt.

Cameron Grimes: I Was Told By A High Executive That I Would Always Have A Job In WWE, I Was Released Five Days Later

"For the immediate future and, sh*t, for 10 more years, I would love to, if I'm able to, wrestle. This is what I enjoy doing," Orton began. "The day of a pay-per-view, when you're thinking of what you can do and then you get the payoff, the reward, that night. It's a different animal. That live audience is a different animal. You grow as a WWE Superstar and really appreciate the reactions we pull out of these fans."

Clark brought up Flair's record for most world championship reigns, and asked Orton, who only trails The Nature Boy by four at this point, if he'll officially join the chase the way John Cena has.

"I've definitely got a few more [championship reigns] left in me. I'd say maybe even a handful," said Orton. "It's been two-and-a-half, three years since I had the big title around my waist, but being tag champs now, the last time I was tag champs ... was in 2007, so going on 10 years later I get my second run as tag champ and that's cool. Do you know what I mean? Sh-t, I'd go fight for the I.C. title or whatever title they put in front of me, it's an honor to hold that title."

But for Orton, even if he never gets another crack at the WWE Championship, he's got no regrets. "If I never won it again, that would be okay with me. I'm a 12-time world champion. I've accomplished so much in the WWE. I just go out there and continue to entertain people and get my kids excited because they get to watch daddy on TV, those kinds of rewards, that's what I'm doing it for now. Any gold around my waist, that's just icing on the cake."
