Report: Impact Wrestling Partner Claims They Were Reason For Jinder Mahal's Push

The idea of Jinder Mahal’s push resulting in him winning the WWE Championship can be attributed to Sony Six, Impact Wrestling’s partner who helps the promotion with broadcasting in India, according to a report saying they believe they were responsible.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Sony Six said they are the reason WWE suddenly decided to give the world title to Mahal seemingly out of nowhere. The Observer noted that Impact Wrestling’s recent Indian tour factored into WWE trying to tap into that market.

The Observer report also noted that if this is true, then it would be somewhat similar to how WWE decided to focus on tapping into the United Kingdom market around the same time ITV’s World of Sport was announced to return this year.

WWE is currently working on doing a weekly WWE Network-exclusive show featuring the UK roster. the company has only had one WWE UK television program aired after the UK Tournament back in January. The bulk of WWE UK Title matches have been on NXT television with the most recent one taking place at NXT TakeOver: Chicago.

Mahal won the title when he beat Randy Orton at the Backlash pay-per-view. He is the second WWE wrestler of Indian descent to win a world title.

Impact also has been pushing its Indian talent, with Sonjay Dutt winning his first X-Division title at the recent India tapings.
