Former WEC Featherweight Champion and longtime UFC veteran Urijah Faber will be inducted into the UFC Hall Of Fame this July during UFC International Fight Week.

The now retired MMA fighter was both surprised and honored to be a future inductee into the hall of fame.

“I was out at the UFC headquarters in Vegas having a meeting and Dana [White] basically stopped me and kind of spilled the beans,” he said on The MMA Hour. “So I was definitely surprised and honored at the same time. What a cool honor. Really, to put your heart into a sport and be recognized like that alongside people that you looked up to and watched since you were a kid, it was pretty amazing.”

Faber retired after defeating the also now retired Brad Pickett by unanimous decision at UFC On Fox 22.

During the UFC 210 broadcast, a video played to the crowd and those watching on pay-per-view to announce Faber’s induction, a video that the fighter says he didn’t get choked up watching.

“No, it didn’t choke me up,” he said. “Not that I’m not a sentimental guy, I’m definitely a sentimental guy. In the context I found out, I didn’t get to watch the countdown, or the little tribute they did — I didn’t realize they were doing that. I was in Vegas trying to scurry to get to a TV to watch Cynthia [Calvillo at UFC 210] and I barely missed it.”

More members of the 2017 UFC Hall Of Fame class will be announced in the coming weeks.
