Injuries to main event performers on two of WWE's brands forced card changes on house shows in the past week. On Smackdown, WWE World Heavyweight Champion AJ Styles will remain sidelined until after Christmas recovering from his ankle injury. In his absence, Dean Ambrose and Bray Wyatt continue to have a series of Street Fights. Meanwhile, NXT headliner Samoa Joe was held out of the ring this past week due to an undisclosed injury of his own.
In other news of note, The New Day made what proved to be their final defenses of the Raw Tag Titles. Meanwhile, on Smackdown events, Apollo Crews picked up a handful of non-title victories over The Miz and Mojo Rawley broke into the singles ranks with his partner Zack Ryder recently undergoing knee surgery. On the Florida loop of NXT, developmental wrestler Kenneth Crawford started going by a new name, Montez Ford, and headlined the December 16 event in tag action against Sanity.
With the Christmas holiday upon us, all WWE brands are staying off the road until this Monday, December 26, when Raw airs.
