Gunther Agrees To Defend WWE World Title Against Randy Orton At WWE Bash At Berlin
Gunther gets his first title defense.
Gunther has agreed to defend his WWE World Heavyweight Title against Randy Orton at WWE Bash at Berlin on August 31. The bout was agreed to on the August 5th episode of WWE Raw.
On Raw, Orton reminded Gunther that his shoulders were up in the finals of the King of the Ring tournament, and that he didn’t forget. He also reminded Gunther that Triple H didn’t forget as it was referenced following the event. Orton said he was calling in his rematch, and wondered if Gunther was up for the challenge. Orton said that the fans deserve a modern day Ric Flair vs. Ricky Steamboat, and he knew he could fill one role, wondering if Gunther could fill the other.
Gunther accepted, saying that if the voices in his head were telling him that he could beat “The Ring General,” those voices were wrong.
Before being interrupted by Orton, Gunther said that his WWE World Heavyweight Title reign would be similar to his WWE Intercontinental Title reign, which is the longest of all time at 666 days. He said that he is greatness personified.

Gunther defeated Orton in the finals of the King of the Ring tournament to earn a shot at the WWE World Title at WWE SummerSlam. However, Orton’s shoulders were visible up. Triple H said the referee’s decision was final, but hinted at a rematch taking place.
Gunther won the WWE World Heavyweight Title at WWE SummerSlam by defeating Damian Priest.
