Independent Wrestler Josh Littell’s Heart Stops After Match & Gets Revived: “I Was Told It Was Three To Four Minutes That I Was Technically Dead”
Littell has since retired from in-ring competition.
There’s a story from KCRA about Northern California independent wrestler Josh Littell, who goes by ‘Sir Samurai.’
It was on April 26th that Littell had just wrestled in the main event of a ‘Supreme Pro Wrestling’ show in Pinole, California. He went to the locker room, sat down, and when he woke up, he was on his way to the hospital. Doctors and nurses told him that he had died that day.
“We were the main event. We wrestled the match, and it was fine all things considered… Evidently, my heart stopped, and I fell to the floor. Officially, I was dead. No nurse or doctor said anything different than you died on Saturday,” Littell shared.
Alex Bell, who is a mentee of Littell’s and his best friend, was interviewed for the piece and opened up about seeing Littell collapse and giving him CPR. Outside of wrestling, Bell is an EMT.
“Even seeing him collapse, I was like, ‘What are you doing? What’s going on?'”, said Bell. “I had him in my lap and I’m talking to him and, there was just a moment where I saw the life just leave his eyes, and I knew in that moment I knew he was gone… I started compressions, asked someone around me to get an AED. The ambulance was already on the way. My first thought was really, this isn’t going to work. I’ve done CPR many times before, and it has never worked before.”
Littell was told he was ‘technically’ dead for three to four minutes. Doctors still do not know what caused his heart to stop. He received a defibrillator in case that situation arises again.
“I was told it was three to four minutes that I was technically dead,” Littell said. “I didn’t see a light or anything, but I had a sensation of being pulled back before I woke up. The percentage of people just to survive is .00001 percent, so I shouldn’t have survived anyway, but the fact that I survived and my brain and body are still working, nobody understands how that happened.”
Littell a.k.a. Sir Samurai, announced his retirement from pro wrestling and left his boots in the ring. Littell had been wrestling for 22 years.
