Yota Tsuji: The ‘Double Main Event’ Phrasing Is BS & It’s An Insult To The People Closing The Show

Tsuji is not big on the double main event billing.

Going into the 2025 G1 Climax tournament, New Japan Pro-Wrestling is rolling out interviews with tourney participants.

One of the names profiled was Yota Tsuji. He spoke to NJPW’s official English website and along the way, touched on the several times in 2025 that the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship has not closed a New Japan event. He thinks the ‘double main event’ phrasing is B.S. and an insult to the talents closing the show.

“Yeah (the IWGP World Heavyweight Title did not headline several USA shows in 2025). Underneath the STRONG Women’s Championship, underneath two non-title main events. I said this backstage in Aichi, June 29, the ‘double main event’ phrasing is B.S., and it’s an insult to the people in the ‘first’ main. In the end, I lost the Global Title sadly, but I’ll still be planning to get in place to rectify that whole situation.”

Tsuji’s G1 schedule includes matches against Hiroshi Tanahashi, Yuya Uemura, and Hirooki Goto. Tournament action kicks off on July 19th.
