Eddie Edwards Thinks It Would Only Be Fair If TNA Wrestlers Started Winning NXT Titles

Edwards weighs in on the NXT-TNA partnership.
Coming out of TNA Slammiversary, NXT talents Jacy Jayne and Trick Williams are in possession of the TNA Knockouts World and TNA World Championships, respectively.
The subject of two NXT wrestlers holding top TNA titles was discussed by Eddie Edwards during his appearance on the Stick to Wrestling Podcast. Edwards said it’d only be fair if TNA talents started winning NXT titles. He then went on to state that he understands why some people were not happy with the results of Slammiversary as it pertains to the aforementioned Knockouts and World Title matches.
“You know, that’s a great question (when will TNA wrestlers take NXT Titles). I think, hopefully, that does happen at some point. I think it would only be fair. But, it’s an interesting time in wrestling as a whole and especially with this relationship because, you know, you don’t know what’s gonna happen and so I think at Slammiversary, people thought they knew who was gonna walk out the champion and that didn’t happen, you know what I mean? So, probably a lot of people were upset and pissed and I get that but I think, for us, it’s just about telling a story and getting people to tune in and I think we have a real interesting scenario with NXT versus TNA and I think over time, I think could keep growing and growing into some big payoff or big battle but, we’ll see how that goes down the road.”
Matt Cardona and The System (Eddie Edwards, Brian Myers & J.D.C.) teamed up at Slammiversary to defeat NXT’s DarkState (Saquon Shugars, Dion Lennox, Osiris Griffin & Cutler James).
On the lead-up to that match, The System went after DarkState on NXT. Edwards opened up about his appearance on the program and brought up his past NXT appearance from 2013 when he and Davey Richards wrestled The Ascension (Konnor & Viktor).
“It was cool. This partnership has obviously led to some unique opportunities for a lot of people which, it’s been great for us. I feel like it’s been great for NXT. They’ve been able to send some guys and girls over to us to work on our shows and giving them opportunity to step outside their comfort zone, and you know, for me, I got to go do it again. This time — maybe sound lame or repetitive, but I got to go with Dango/JDC and (Brian) Myers. Again, two of my best buddies so I wasn’t flying solo. I had them with me and it was a cool experience and I also have a lot of friends there, who are behind the scenes, who are also on TV there so, I got to see some friends, I got to show up on TV there. Kind of in and out. It was a cool experience for us all around and I was there, briefly, maybe 2013 I think. I did a tryout there and had one match down there with Davey Richards at the time, and things didn’t work out so here we are this many years later. I got to go back and get in there again and it felt like it went well so it was a cool experience.”
The post-Slammiversary edition of TNA iMPACT is going to be a live show. Below is the advertised lineup for the 7/24 show:
- Joe Hendry vs. Mike Santana
