Gabe Kidd Off 7/23 NJPW G1 Climax Show Due To Right Knee Injury, Forfeiting Match Against Shingo Takagi

Kidd is forfeiting another match.

During the opening night of NJPW’s G1 Climax 35 tournament, IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion Gabe Kidd clashed with Konosuke Takeshita.

He suffered a loss, and coming out of the bout, Kidd had a right knee injury. Kidd has missed one G1 Climax show, and he’ll miss another as New Japan announced that he is off the 7/23 event. He was supposed to face Shingo Takagi, but Kidd will forfeit the match, and Takagi will secure two points. Below is their official announcement:

Thank you for supporting New Japan Pro-Wrestling.

Gabe Kidd, who sustained an injury to his right knee on day one of G1 Climax 35 competition July 19, has yet to be cleared for return and as a result, will miss July 23’s event in Nagaoka.

We apologise to fans who were looking forward to seeing Kidd wrestle, and appreciate your understanding.

Tonight’s scheduled match between Gabe Kidd and Shingo Takagi will be cancelled, and Takagi will earn two points via forfeit.

More information on Kidd’s status will be released as it becomes available.
