Singer Ellie Price Finds Def Rebel Used Her Vocal Sample For Fatal Influence Theme

Singer Ellie Price recently discovered that Def Rebel used her vocal sample for Fatal Influence’s theme “The Chosen.”

In an Instagram video, Price shares that she released a pop-punk vocal sample pack on Splice, a royalty free music site. Price says that Def Rebel took some of the samples, and assumed they ran the samples through an AI program to create a similar but different melody and lyrics.

Price states, “The be perfectly clear, they have done absolutely nothing wrong. This is what these samples are supposed to be used for and I’m stoked that I have come across it. Part of me does wish people knew it was me.”

On the Fatal Influence theme, the lyrics have been changed from Price’s sample song, which Price points out.

Laila Carvallo of Puroreso Ongaku wrote about Def Rebel using a Splice sample for “The Chosen” in April.

“The vocals, performed by Bianca Sperduti, a def rebel collaborator since 2020 (she’s also credited as a songwriter on streaming platforms), are not direct lyrical copies of any known sample, but the melody, tone, and vocal delivery match a royalty-free vocal line available on Splice. It’s clear that the performance is built around that original sample, with only slight lyrical variation.”

Def Rebel has been doing themes for WWE since 2019.

If you’re not a fan of Def Rebel, you’re not alone.

Numerous fans pointed out their frustration with the WWE music production group with the theme songs remaining unidentifiable for many talent during the Royal Rumble matches. A number of talent in WWE that Fightful have spoken to have felt the same way.

We’d indicated in the past that no talent that Fightful spoke with have interacted with Def Rebel producers for input on songs. Beyond that, we’re told by talent that several have expressed unhappiness with the quality of theme songs, and have made attempts to get their previous themes back.

WWE has also made requests to change a number of themes that the talent vehemently pushed back on. Some talent have managed to keep their previous themes, while others have not been so lucky.

Very few people on the roster that we’ve heard from are happy with the Def Rebel themes. A number of incoming talent also preferred to bring their own themes with them.

For those asking when the Def Rebel contract or agreement is up with WWE, we do not yet have that information.
