Alberto Del Rio Isn’t Planned For WWE Return

Alberto Del Rio’s WWE status has not changed. He will probably say otherwise, but it hasn’t changed.

Alberto Del Rio lost a match to El Mesias this week, forcing him out of AAA. Just a couple of months ago, Del Rio was among the company’s top stars. Since WWE’s acquisition of AAA, they’ve made clear efforts to not mention Del Rio.

Over the course of years, WWE reps and higher ups were very clear about their lack of interest in using Alberto Del Rio, now known as Alberto El Patron. Throughout the years, Alberto has claimed there is WWE interest, including over the last year, when he told some members of the AAA roster that he was gauged for the Royal Rumble.

“If we wanted Alberto at all, much less in the Royal Rumble, he’d be here,” one WWE higher up said. They reiterated that they’d never heard of any difference or change to his status, and said that WWE went out of their way to makes sure that from a promotional standpoint, they’d not featured Del Rio and got the AAA Mega Championship off of him. They were aware of the potential backlash from fans in Mexico in Vikingo winning months back, and saw it as a short-term problem with a long-term benefit.

Sources within WWE claim to us that there is no plan for Del Rio in WWE, and say that they believe Del Rio is legitimately done in AAA. They believe he will make efforts to return to both companies.
