Konosuke Takeshita Wins NJPW G1 Climax 35 Tournament

The finals of the NJPW G1 Climax 35 tournament took place at Ariake Arena in Tokyo. There were 6,870 people in attendance to see the show, and it was headlined by Konosuke Takeshita versus EVIL in the G1 Final.

There was constant interference on EVIL’s behalf from HOUSE OF TORTURE. There came a point when Rocky Romero fought them off, and the current IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Zack Sabre Jr. hit ringside to drag Ren Narita away from the bout.

At one point in the match, Takeshita went for a knee strike, but his knee gave out mid-stride. As the referee had his back turned while tending to Takeshita, EVIL gave Takeshita a low blow and followed up with a clothesline, but it only garnered him a two count.

Takeshita would go on to secure the win with ‘Raging Fire’ to win the G1 Climax tournament and earn a shot at the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship.

Takeshita was presented with the G1 Climax 35 trophy and was joined in the ring by BALLISTIK BOYZ for a photo-op. BALLISTIK BOYZ are the group that created the G1 35 theme song.

In Takeshita’s post-match speech, he stated that he is the best in the world and the rest of the wrestling world has seen nothing yet. Moving to his backstage comments, he stated that he wants to challenge Zack Sabre Jr. for the title before Wrestle Kingdom 20 and go into the Tokyo Dome as IWGP World Heavyweight Champion.
