Hiroshi Tanahashi Scores Win In Lights Out Steel Cage Match, Will Ospreay Stretchered Out Of AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door

Hiroshi Tanahashi scored the final pinfall of his career in the UK. However, the Death Riders got the last laugh in London.

In the main event of AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, Darby Allin, Kenny Omega, Kota Ibushi, Hiroshi Tanahashi, and Will Ospreay defeated Claudio Castagnoli, Jon Moxley, Gabe Kidd, and The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson) in a Lights Out Steel Cage Match. The match featured tons of table bumps, forks in ears, and even gummy bears.

In the end, Hiroshi Tanahashi scored his final fall in the UK, pinning Matt Jackson with High Fly Flow after a Doomsday Hidden Blade.

Following the match, the Death Riders attacked Will Ospreay.

Despite the best actions of Samoa Joe, Katsuyori Shibata, and Powerhouse Hobbs, The Opps, they were not able to get inside the steel cage, and Ospreay once again had his neck Pillmanized as it was placed inside a steel chair and stomped on.

Will Ospreay had previously revealed that he had two herniated discs in his back and said on the final episode of AEW Dynamite before AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door that if he was going out, he was going to give it his all. He would do that throughout the match, even diving off the cage in his condition.

Darby Allin, competing in his first match of the year and his first match since climbing Mount Everest, would end the match by diving off the cage outside the ring through stacked tables with Gabe Kidd on his back. Notably, Kidd was absent from the post-match attack.

Hiroshi Tanahashi will be retiring at next year’s Wrestle Kingdom on January 4. Forbidden Door was his final match in the UK.

The show would go off the air with Will Ospreay being stretchered out of the arena. He had previously stated that he would be taking some time off to heal from an injury. A timetable for his return is unknown.

Fightful will continue to monitor the story and report any updates.
