In the lead up to WrestleMania 27, Jerry Lawler and Michael Cole’s announcer rivalry would spill into the ring, as the pair were scheduled to face off in a match refereed by Stone Cold Steve Austin. While Cole had not competed before, he did have Jack Swagger (Jake Hager) as a trainer in the leadup to the bout.

While speaking to Insight with Chris Van Vliet in a new interview, Hager spoke about working with Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler in their storyline building up to WrestleMania 27.

“I had Jim Ross put me in an ankle lock. But it’s all worth it if you get to take a stunner from Stone Cold at WrestleMania, that’s the payoff. It was worth it for me. Got a WrestleMania match out of it and it’s all part of the career. This is something I learned from Jericho. You always got to evolve. Like I said earlier, you got to be vulnerable. So if you’re this big, tough guy, you can only do that for so long.”

Chris would then ask Hager about the slap he received from Michael Cole during the storyline.

“He hits like a girl.”

Elsewhere in the same interview, Hager would comment on working for Tony Khan. You can read more about that here.
