Roman Reigns: I Don’t Like Low Hanging Fruit In Promos, I Feel More Sophisticated Than That
Roman Reigns doesn’t want to go for the low hanging fruit in promos.
Speaking to Stephanie McMahon on What’s Your Story? Stephanie commented on how she would try to give Roman cheap lines to use against her as Roman feuded with The Authority in 2015-2016, but said Roman rejected the lines.
Roman looked back on that time, saying, “That was a weird time, and those were weird performance waters to navigate. Everybody looks at that time and is like, ‘They booed him. He was a failed babyface,’ but I wasn’t. Some nights, yes, but pretty much every night, I won them by the end of the night. We were in a place where the fans were doing what they were doing and we were a little more, not combative, but we would hold friction with that and not go with the flow when it felt like we should go with the flow. It taught me so much. I had to do it on my own time. Even to do this day, Paul would come up with a lot of stuff when we were in the middle of the title reign and I’d reject a lot of them or I’d make it my own. I don’t like low hanging fruit. From a promo standpoint, a lot of those cheaper digs, I feel more sophisticated than that. I feel my communication can be a little more intellectual. I’m from Georgia Tech, I should be able to put some stuff together that isn’t necessarily the stuff you hear on the corner. Your dad [Vince McMahon] was that way with the way he wrote and thought about writing. ‘Be a little more sophisticated.’ That was just a challenge of mine that I’ve always taken, being a PG product. No disrespect to anybody chugging a beer, flipping birds, shove this up your ass, that up your ass. That’s not that hard.”
Roman Reigns won’t be delivering any lines on WWE TV anytime soon as he was stretchered out of the arena at WWE Clash in Paris following his match against Bronson Reed.
