Bishop Dyer (Baron Corbin) Almost Had Cars As Part Of Happy Corbin Entrance, But Vince McMahon Didn’t Think A Rolls-Royce Made Him Rich
Bishop Dyer discusses a nixed part of his entrance during his days as Happy Corbin in WWE.
Baron Corbin, now known as Bishop Dyer in MLW, underwent many gimmick changes in WWE. One of those changes saw him dubbed Happy Corbin. Corbin was rich after hitting the jackpot in Vegas and regularly rocking fedoras on TV. Asked about the fedora during that time in his career, Dyer explained that it was a Vince McMahon idea and that McMahon also wanted him to have a pencil-thin mustache.
Speaking about this incident to SP3 and Jeremy Lambert on Fightful Overbooked’s In The Weeds, Bishop Dyer explained that, to play off the rich character, he wanted an entrance to accompany it. The creative staff pitched having Corbin come out in a Rolls-Royce after he expressed a desire for an Alberto Del Rio-style entrance with cars. Vince McMahon was initially on board with the idea, but then decided that a Rolls-Royce doesn’t make you rich.
“That was Vince. He wanted the hat and a pencil-thin mustache, for some reason, which he’s rocking now. I like those fedoras. I married a Spanish woman, I live in Tampa, I have a few of them anyway that I wear to the beach. [Vince] was like, ‘I see you in a fedora.’ I go, ‘That I got.’ Two, I said, ‘Hey Vince, if we’re going to do this rich guy thing, I have to so up Alberto Del Rio style in cars.’ ‘Yeah, great idea.’ They pitched him Rolls-Royce. He’s like, ‘Yeah, let’s do it.’
“They ordered one, and I think I did it one day, and he’s like, ‘Rolls-Royce doesn’t mean you’re rich.’ I was like, ‘I don’t know who you’re talking to, but in my world it does.’ He’s like, ‘I need you in a Lambo. A bright color.’ ‘Okay, I’m cool with that too.’ They ordered it, and he goes, ‘It’s too small for you. You can’t have that. We’re just not going to do cars.’ That would have been cool. I would have felt cool. I would have had different music playing in the car as I drive it so I don’t have to hear the [Happy Corbin] music.”
Bishop Dyer is now happy in MLW. Paired with Donovan Dijak, another former WWE star, the duo is the current MLW Tag Team Champions. The Skyscrapers, as they are collectively known, are slated to take part in MLW Fightland. The event will be held on September 13 in Texas. Learn more about that event here.
