The Rock Set To Produce Live-Action Teddy Ruxpin Film
The Rock (Dwayne Johnson) and Seven Bucks are set to produce a live-action Teddy Ruxpin film.
The news was first reported by Variety.
Chris Hazzard and Mike Fontana writing the script. The film is in the works at Amazon MGM Studios.
Ruxpin is an animatronic ’80s toy who is canonically not a bear, but a bear-like creature known as an “illiop.”
Details about the film are being kept under wraps.
Teddy Ruxpin was created by former Disney Imagineer Ken Forsse and was launched by toy company Alchemy II in 1985 as the world’s first animated talking toy and went on to sell more than eight million units worldwide. Teddy Ruxpin expanded into a $7 billion franchise including animated TV series “The Adventures of Teddy Ruxpin,” dozens of books, interactive games and other products. The toy was named one of TIME Magazine’s 100 Greatest Toys of All-Time.
The Rock is set to star as Mark Kerr in “The Smashing Machine,” which hits theaters on October 3.
