Over the past year or so, wrestling fans have all been giving their opinions on who John Cena should face off with in his final wrestling match this coming December, and now a WWE Hall Of Famer has weighed in on who he would have wanted to Cena face in his WWE swan song.

While speaking on an episode of the Road Trip After Hours podcast, Teddy Long broached the idea of John Cena taking on Stone Cold Steve Austin during the culmination of his current retirement tour.

“Well, if it was me and I know it wouldn’t happen- and I may be just thinking outside the box… but what I would like to have? I would have brought someone in special and I don’t know whether Steve would, you know, I’m pretty sure he might do business, (John) Cena and Stone Cold Steve Austin, that’s what I would have liked to seen.”

When Long’s co-host Mac Davis expressed his issues with the idea, mainly due to how Austin walked away from the sport of pro wrestling in 2003. Long noted that for that reason, Austin and Cena would make good opponents.

“Well that’s why it would work so good. Because he’s one of those guys that didn’t go back on his word, he didn’t go back. But just here, if you build it right and get a story to go on, then that’s something that may excite him and it makes him want to come back. It’s easy to do!”

Elsewhere in another recent interview, WWE referee Charles Robinson spoke on being body checked by John Cena earlier this year. You can read more about that here.
