Jeff Hardy talks how he created the Swanton Bomb.
Hardy is known as a risk taker in the world of pro wrestling that is rivaled by very few at the highest level in major wrestling promotions. With his high flying offense came a new move that has been borrowed by countless wrestlers over the years, The Swanton Bomb.
While speaking to Rewind, Recap, Relive in a new interview, Jeff Hardy was asked how he created the Swanton Bomb, with Jeff noting that he took some inspiration from The Great Sasuke.
“It was another one of my favorite wrestlers from Japan, The Great Sasuke, I believe. He would do this dive to the floor, but he had that grace about his front flip, and I just started doing that on the trampoline and said, wow, this might be a cool move to do in the ring on somebody. Instead of a senton, because it is so graceful, I put the swan in there, and I’ll never forget telling ‘Jim Ross, hey, I would like to call this the Swanton Bomb’, if that’s cool, man, and sure enough, that night he did it, and the rest is history.”
Elsewhere in the same interview, Jeff recalled a pitch involving a burning ladder that he wishes he could have done in his career. You can read more about that here.
