Matt Hardy Reflects On Emotional Ending To Final Hardy Boyz vs. Dudley Boyz Match

Matt Hardy comments on the ending of the final match between The Hardy Boyz and The Dudley Boyz and reflects on the legacy he believes the match will have.

At TNA Bound For Glory 2025, Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy successfully defended both the NXT and TNA Tag Team Championships against Bubba Ray Dudley and D-Von Dudley in a final Tables Match. After the match between these legendary tag teams, Bubba and D-Von retired, handing their boots to The Hardy Boyz to mark the end of their careers.

The match ended when Bubba was slammed through a table by both Hardys after he stopped fighting back, clearly signaling to Matt and Jeff with his facial expressions that he was ready for the end. On social media, it was compared to the finish of Shawn Michaels and Ric Flair’s match at WrestleMania 24. Now, Matt Hardy has weighed in on that take, saying that it wasn’t meant to be a direct callback to that finish but simply their personal take on such an ending.

He also credited the match for being the reason TNA set an attendance record at the event. He went on to say that the match would be much like the Final Deletion he had with Jeff Hardy in 2016, initially polarizing but eventually gaining the critical acclaim he believes it deserves.

From Matt Hardy on X:

This match def consisting of strong storytelling, @Graannt. It wasn’t meant to be a Flair/HBK finish, it had our own personal spin on it.

Not to be disrespectful towards the rest of the amazing roster on this show, but this is the match that set the new attendance record. People cared about the Hardy/Dudley rivalry. Doesn’t matter what internet nobodies say on social media, The Hardy Boyz sell tickets in 2025.

The Hardys/Dudleys match at BFG 2025 reminds me of The Final Deletion from 2016. It’s initially gonna be polarizing & people will either love it or hate it. As time passes, people will look back at this match as a masterclass performed by four 30 year+ grizzled vets. This match was historic & special. I’m proud of myself, @JEFFHARDYBRAND, @bullyray5150 & @TestifyDVon for making magic together one final time. Thank you for the opportunity & platform, @ThisIsTNA.
