California is backing the Muhammad Ali American Boxing Revival Act.
On Wednesday, October 15, the California State Athletic Commission unanimously voted to support the Muhammad Ali American Boxing Revival Act. The bill, which was introduced earlier this year, will amend the Professional Boxing Safety Act of 1996 to “further enhance the well-being of professional boxers”.
According to MMA Junkie’s Nolan King, names like Nick Khan, John McCarthy, Cory Rapacz, Tom Loeffler, and Forrest Griffin endorsed the bill. On the flip side, names like Carlos Newton, Sara McMann, Ray Elbe, and Juanito Ibarra are opposing the update.
The purposes of this Act are—
(1) to provide increased choice and opportunity to professional boxers by allowing a professional boxer to choose to participate in the alternative system offered by a unified boxing organization; and
(2) to further enhance safety precautions that protect the well-being of professional boxers.
Fightful will update fans as more updates come out on the progression of the Muhammad Ali American Boxing Revival Act.
