Athena: WRTW 2 Is About Establishing That We’re Not Going Anywhere

Athena is set to run her second Who Runs The World? event on October 25 in Irving, Texas.
Who Runs The World? is Athena’s all-women’s promotion highlighting women’s independent wrestling with appearances from AEW and ROH talent.
Speaking to Joey Hayden of Dallas Morning News, Athena commented on the upcoming event.
“It’s probably the most stressful thing I do, outside of dealing with my own stuff at work and trying to be creative for me. Trying to be creative for the girls is so much more difficult than I think anyone would ever realize. We’re being a little ambitious this time. We’re going to Southern Junction, which is an awesome venue, an awesome bar, as well, sits up to 1,000 people. I might be overreaching, but I think me and my girls can do it.
“These girls, here’s the thing, I know my girls are going to put on a great, phenomenal show. You’ve seen them around the world, and a lot of them have so much more to prove. WRTW 2 is about establishing that we’re not going anywhere. We’re going to continue to rise, continue to grow, and continue to show you new women that you’ve never seen before. I love watching independent wrestling. I grew up on the independent scene. I spent nine years there before I got signed to WWE. … I think there are too many dream matches out there that we’re not getting to see, especially in the state of Texas But WRTW is kind of like my passion project. I’ve always wanted a place where women could pick up each other and kind of just push each other to new limits in a different way. … I see a whole bunch of hungry women that just need an opportunity to show the world what they can do. And what better way to give back to the women’s wrestling world than to produce and fund something as big as ‘Who Runs The World?’”
The first Who Runs The World event took place in August and featured a surprise appearance from Mercedes Mone.
AEW Women’s Champion Kris Statlander is set to compete at WRTW 2.
