Kenny Omega Opens Up About Stomach Issues Going Into AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door: “As An Exec, It Was The Wrong Call Not To Think Of Health”

Omega wanted to push through for Tanahashi and Ospreay.

Closing out the 2025 installment of AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door was a Lights Out Steel Cage match. The team of Will Ospreay, Hiroshi Tanahashi, Darby Allin, Kenny Omega, and Kota Ibushi defeated Gabe Kidd, Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, and The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson).

That was reflected on during Tanahashi’s sit-down interview with Kenny Omega, which aired on NJPW WORLD. Omega was discussing his recovery from his battle with diverticulitis. He said his stomach was giving him trouble going into Forbidden Door, but he knew it would be Ospreay’s last match before neck surgery, and was also aware that it would be Tanahashi’s final match in the UK.

Omega stated that he wanted to push through, but knew it was a bad decision from an Executive Vice President’s point of view.

“The truth is, just before Forbidden Door, I found out about (Will) Ospreay’s injury. I’d heard a bit before his announcement. But I knew you (Hiroshi Tanahashi) would be there and it would be your last U.K. match. So my stomach was hurting, and there was definitely risk there but… I wanted to be in your last U.K. match. So I did it. But I shouldn’t really. As an exec, it was the wrong call not to think of health. But we did it OK…”

Omega is set to be in action at AEW Full Gear on 11/22. He’ll be teaming with Jurassic Express (Jack Perry & Luchasaurus) to take on Josh Alexander and The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson). The winners will receive a $1 million cash prize.
