The Rock Recalls Finding Out About Osama Bin Laden’s Death Before It Was Announced By President Obama

The Rock was in the know.

On May 2, 2011, the United States conducted an operation and killed Al-Qaeda founder Osama Bin Laden in Pakistan. The news was announced by President Barack Obama on a live television broadcast. John Cena announced the news to the live crowd at the Extreme Rules pay-per-view in Tampa, Florida.

If you were around on social media back then, you’ll remember that The Rock teased the news on Twitter before it was announced to the general public. Speaking with the Hollywood Reporter for a new interview, Rock recalled the situation.

“I’ve got a friend of a friend who gave me a call. The call was like, ‘Hey, this thing happened.’ And I said, ‘Okay, wonderful news.’ I was told on the call that the president at that time [Barack Obama] was going to make his speech in 20 minutes or whatever. I said, “Okay, great.” So 20 minutes go by, and at about the 25th minute, I tweet this. Then I get a second call, and the call is, ‘Yeah, the president didn’t go on yet.’ And I went, ‘Oh shit.'”

Cody Rhodes recently stated that WWE has just scratched the surface of Rock’s Final Boss character. Check out his full comments by clicking here.
