On the November 14th edition of WWE Friday Night SmackDown, Zack Ryder (Matt Cardona) would return to the WWE main roster for the first time in five years, taking on LA Knight in a tournament match in the ‘My Time Is Now’ tournament. Ryder would come up short in the bout with Knight, but for him, it was all worth it.

While speaking on WWE’s YouTube channel after his bout with Knight, Ryder noted that he feels like he’s spent the last five years busting his ass for a WWE return.

“Five years. It’s been five years since I put on Zack Ryder boots. Every single morning, the first thing I do before I even open my damn eyes, I say, ‘how can I get back here? What do I have to do to get back here?’ I busted my ass for the past five years. Deathmatch King, Indie God, The Complete, all for this moment. This might be a one time shot. I might get the call tomorrow, it doesn’t matter, cause I’m Zack Ryder, I’m alwayz ready, and I guess I could say this, woo, woo, woo, you know it.”

LA Knight would approach Ryder at the end of the clip, noting that he isn’t sure if it was a welcome back or a see you later, but gave Ryder credit for their bout.

“I don’t know if this is a welcome back or if this is a see you later. All I can say is, yeah, good stuff.”

LA Knight also had a backstage promo following their bout, which you can read more about here.
