Wheeler Yuta Says His Life Flashed Before His Eyes In Blood & Guts When Mark Briscoe Went For The Piledriver On Top Of The Cage
Wheeler Yuta was the first man in the Blood & Guts cage for the Death Riders on Wednesday, squaring off with Darby Allin to begin and working the entire match.
For Yuta, it was his third overall Blood & Guts match.
Speaking to Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp, Yuta reflected on the match.
“Yeah, there’s definitely like a moment where Mark picked me up for the piledriver and like my life flashed before my eyes a little bit. Any time you’re like climbing up and down that thing is pretty scary. So that definitely, again, like getting up there and then even more so like really sweaty trying to get back down. ‘Oh gosh, here we go.’ Thankfully, everything was good,” he said.
Yuta battled to the top of the cage with Mark Briscoe, who hit a Jay Driller on the structure.
“When it comes to going to the top of the cage, in the past couple of Blood & Guts that I’ve been involved in, I like to just go up there once because you never know what’s going to happen. So like to at least go up there once before the show and just kind of feel it out. I’ve noticed that I’m a lot more nervous then than I am during the match. I think when you’re out there and it’s happening, there’s a lot of adrenaline and you just have to focus on being in the moment. It’s pretty terrifying to be up there. It’s really tall, like our cage is exceptionally tall,” said Yuta.
The team of Darby Allin, Roderick Strong & The Conglomeration (Kyle O’Reilly, Mark Briscoe & Orange Cassidy) wre victorious in the bout, handing the Death Riders their second straight loss in Blood & Guts. They previously lost in 2023 to The Golden Elite (Adam Page, Kenny Omega, Kota Ibushi, Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson).
Speaking on the Blood & Guts structure, Yuta said, “It’s definitely daunting on the day of to have such a unique match, like it’s obviously such a challenge. Just the fact that it’s two rings. It’s a completely different space than you’re in the rest of the year. That’s a challenge. The fact there’s so many people in it, that’s a big challenge. I think that leading up to it, obviously we build it up a lot, but then once it happens, you really do have to just move on. That’s kind of the life of a pro wrestler is like we do this insane thing and then you have to continue to move on the best you can.”
Yuta, Daniel Garcia, and PAC were back in action on Saturday’s AEW Collision, teaming to defeat Jay Lethal, Adam Priest, and Tommy Billington in a trios match.
As of now, Yuta is not scheduled to compete at AEW Full Gear on Saturday, November 22.
