Orange Cassidy reflects on taking his wrestling character to television.
Over the course of the past almost decade, Orange has portrayed his king of sloth style character across the wrestling world, including on the independent circuit before bringing his character to television with AEW, where he would accompany his Best Friends (Chuck Taylor and Trent?). Since then, Cassidy has become one of AEW’s top homegrown stars.
While speaking to Adrian Hernandez in a new interview, Cassidy was asked how he felt about bringing his character to TV with AEW, noting that he felt like he had low stakes given his position on the card.
“It’s so… I was such low stakes. I was the friend with Chuck and Trent, right? My part was so minor that I was like, well, if no one cares, then it won’t matter. I had such low stakes. Then even when my, like even before AEW, you know, when my, all my friends and the people I grew up wrestling with are getting all of these opportunities and I was getting nothing, it’s like, I got nothing to lose. Like I’m just I think once I discovered that, the fear of ‘is anybody gonna care?’ kind of left because no one cared anyway. So I was just trying whatever it was and I am very, very lucky that AEW allowed me and the people that I got to wrestle against. I learned from everybody that I wrestled, especially in those early days, I learned so much from them. Getting beat up by them taught me a lot.”
Elsewhere in the same interview, Cassidy shared how he decided to use his sunglasses as a weapon inside AEW Blood And Guts last week. You can read more about that here.
