KENTA Opens Up About Death Threats He Received During Heel Run In NJPW
KENTA shares what social media feedback truly fazed him.
After KENTA’s time with WWE came to an end, he ventured to New Japan Pro-Wrestling. While speaking with Rolling Stone Japan, he shared that during his heel run in the promotion, he received a lot of death threats.
He said he did not think much of it because what he was doing in the ring was going to draw that type of reaction. KENTA said it was tougher for him mentally when he initially transitioned from WWE to NJPW.
“Yeah, I got tons of DMs saying ‘Die’ or ‘I’ll kill you…’ I was completely detached about that stuff back then. Even if someone told me to ‘die,’ I didn’t really think anything of it. Because back then, I was doing things in the ring that deserved that kind of talk. What was actually tougher was right after I left WWE and joined New Japan, when I first competed in the G1 CLIMAX. Back then, I got bombarded with stuff like ‘KENTA sucks’ or ‘Go back to NOAH.’ That time was way harder mentally.”
KENTA is back with Pro Wrestling NOAH. He was reigning as GHC Heavyweight Champion until November 8th, when he was defeated by Yoshiki Inamura.
