Freddie Prinze Jr: A Friend Of Mine Who Works At Disney Told Me That ESPN Is Unhappy With WWE Deal

Prinze Jr. shares a message from a Disney employee.
ESPN and WWE are several months into their partnership, which sees WWE’s Premium Live Events airing on ESPN’s new direct-to-consumer platform.
Thus far, Wrestlepalooza, Crown Jewel, and Survivor Series: WarGames have aired on the platform. Survivor Series was the most recent event, and it was recapped by actor and former WWE writer Freddie Prinze Jr.
He reviewed the show on his Wrestling with Freddie podcast. Along the way, Prinze Jr. mentioned that ESPN is unhappy with how the WWE deal has played out. The Walt Disney Company owns ESPN, and Prinze Jr. said he spoke with a friend of his who works for Disney. That friend relayed to him that ESPN is not happy.
“It’s his final pay-per-view on ESPN,” Prinze Jr. said about John Cena. “ESPN, by the way, so unhappy with the deal. I was talking to a friend of mine who works for Disney, and he was just like, ‘Yo, they better make their money back on this deal.’ He just said, ‘They’re hot.’”
ESPN President Burke Magnus made a media appearance in late November and stated that the partnership has been great so far.
