Mick Foley: The Only Reason I Ever Got In Shape Was For A Wrestling Match

WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley recently sat down with Inside The Ropes to discuss his in-ring career. There was nearly a moment where the 60-year-old came out of retirement for one last match, but that ended up not happening.

Regardless, Foley broke down as to what all went into his career. His weight was often talked about, but when the lights shined the brightest, he did whatever he could to stay in shape.

“The only reason I ever got in shape was for a wrestling match,” Foley said during a live show on November 23. “I didn’t like it, I didn’t think it was fun… I was so glad when I became Cactus Jack because just my arm showed… I worked out and I worked out harder than people thought because I had to be in shape to try to go with people who were much better athletes than I was.”

In the interview, Foley also recalled the infamous story of his hip being the worst his doctor had ever seen. Safe to say, it’s no surprise he never was able to have a true retirement match.

Officially, Foley’s last match was as part of the 2012 Royal Rumble. He had just one match in 2011 after his career mostly came to an end in 2010 during his run with TNA.
