CM Punk Comments On Him & Cody Rhodes Putting WWE Titles On John Cena After Cena’s Final Match

CM Punk speaks about his and Cody Rhodes’ honoring of Cena.

The final match of John Cena’s 26-year pro wrestling career took place at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event. He fell in defeat to GUNTHER via submission in the bout.

Post-match, the entire backstage cleared out and came to ringside to honor Cena. WWE World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk and Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes got into the ring and put both of their respective titles over Cena’s shoulders.

On the Saturday Night’s Main Event post-show, CM Punk joined and spoke about the moment with himself, Rhodes, and Cena.

“Not deserved but earned. I feel that me and Cody (Rhodes) are two guys who came in when John (Cena) was getting on top and you play follow the leader to an extent. There’s a lot of alpha personalities. There’s people who think they know what they’re doing and I was always looked at as the indie guy, and maybe John even looked at me like that when I first got here. But, you can be so good and so consistent for so long that it turns heads, and me and John became soulmates so, I think that I’m in the position currently certainly not because of anything I did, you know, or maybe a fraction but, John’s definitely one of the guys that has helped a Cody Rhodes and a CM Punk get to his level so to speak so, yeah, put the straps on his shoulders because he’s earned it.”

The show concluded with the talent roster, executives, and personalities surrounding the ring. Cena watched the video package that was made for him, and then he walked up the aisleway to the backstage area.
