John Cena Says It Was An Honor To Step In The Ring With Gunther, Has A Lot Of Respect For Him

Gunther won the Last Time is Now tournament, earning the right to face John Cena in his last match. Gunther was victorious in the bout, tapping out Cena.

It was the second legend Gunther has retired in 2025, previously defeating Goldberg.

Speaking to Cody Rhodes on What Do You Want To Talk About? Cena expressed his admiration for Gunther.

“I see things from a different plane. He sees from this plane, and I love that. He is relentless in the mastery of a piece of canvas. We can talk about a myriad of things. You’ll have a lane of conversation with him, but it’ll be enthusiastic. ‘You like a flat white. He’s a coffee nerd.’ Wrestling, with purpose, he has an idea of what it should be and an idea of what offends him. I cannot tell you how much respect I have for him, and I know he’s not going to say the same thing about me, and he shouldn’t. I’m okay with that. It is such an honor to be able to step in there with someone whose moniker is ‘The Ring General.’ In my last one, if I could add a star to his uniform, someone who believes the mat is sacred, I believe the same thing. We just see it through different lenses,” he said.

Elsewhere during the interview, Cena explained why he smiled as he tapped out to Gunther. You can find his full comments here.
