Michin reflects on AJ Lee being an inspiration to independent women’s wrestlers upon being signed to WWE.
Prior to the 2010s and the WWE Women’s Revolution, independent women’s wrestlers had a steep hill to climb if they wanted to be signed by the promotion, as the company largely signed models and such before training them to work in a ring. However, one woman in the 2010s stood out to current WWE women’s superstar Michin.
While speaking to Good News York in an interview, Michin reflected on getting to meet Lee recently, noting that she told her that she was ‘the great indie dream’.
“AJ, she came from the independents and I remember talking to her about a month ago and it was my first time. We always missed paths like right when she was done with with an indie company. Like I came in and then she got signed right after she worked for this company and I came in. So like, I always missed her. So I finally got to talk to her about a month ago and I told her that she was like, she was ‘the great indie dream’ because she was the one from the independents that got signed, then there was Bayley who got signed and I spent some indie time with her as well. It’s like, this is cool to see that now we have a chance. Like now they’re hiring independent girls. We have a chance.”
Elsewhere in the same interview, Michin reflected on being signed to WWE after her second appearance in the WWE Mae Young Classic. You can read more about that here.
