A look back at the MMA Rules bout.
The final match of Ronda Rousey’s run in WWE took place at SummerSlam 2023. She faced Shayna Baszler in an MMA Rules match and fell in defeat to Baszler.
Baszler looked back at the bout while chatting with Chris Van Vliet. She confirmed that she broke her thumb in the match. Baszler wrestled two days later on Monday Night Raw.
“Guys, we were fighting. We weren’t trying to knock each other out but we legitimately went in with, ‘Alright, let’s just spar and see what happens.’ I legitimately broke my thumb and my eye was swelled shut.” Baszler was asked how she broke her thumb, and she replied, “Probably punching. That’s the way it always happens… So afterwards, I’m all messed up, my eye is swelled shut and they’re like, ‘Hey, we’re in the football stadium. There’s an X-ray machine next door. You have anything that hurts?’ And I’m like, ‘My hand kind of hurts. I don’t know. It’s probably nothing,’ and they were like, ‘Oh yeah, you broke your thumb.’ So, when I come out the next day, I have a singles match with Zoey (Stark). I have a cast on my hand, my eye is swelled shut. All that is legit. That was not for the story or a work or anything. I was truly messed up.”
After departing WWE, Rousey wrestled in three matches. She did two independent dates and wrestled for Ring of Honor. All three matches were tag team bouts with Marina Shafir.
