Michael Oku reflects on attending his first wrestling event all the way back in 2010.
Oku is one of the top stars in the UK independent wrestling scene and over the course of the past couple of years, has begun to make more common appearances on AEW programming, competing at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door Zero Hour last year.
While speaking to the Mega Powers podcast, Michael Oku has reflected on his first ever live wrestling event at the same venue, the O2 arena in London.
“Yeah, no, this is a surreal, surreal experience. That was the goal from I wanna say like late last year, I was like, I’m gonna get on the show. That’s I’m gonna be at Forbidden Door, I’m gonna wrestle at O2, and what makes it special for me personally was the O2 was the first place I watched a live wrestling show. 15 years ago, 2010. Freaking guest host era of RAW. I think Cena had the orange shirts at that time, so it was just a sea of orange. I was in the nosebleeds, so to see the sea of orange, to be there, to see that show live, and I had a knockoff NWO t-shirt. You gotta find a way to get it. I was a kid back then just thinking, man, this would be cool. I hadn’t even begun my wrestling journey, so to have really full circled it, to now actually be, my music to hit, my catchphrase to hit, people to know me, to make noise for me, show up and show me love, that’s something I couldn’t have imagined.”
Elsewhere in another interview, Oku would speak on how Speedball Mike Bailey would help him understand how to do really good matches. You can read more about that here.
