Elijah Burke recalls how he rejected a Vince McMahon pitch for him to be part of The Spirit Squad.
The Spirit Squad was a faction of male cheerleaders that would debut in WWE in the mid 2000s, featuring the likes of Nic Nemeth, Kenny Dykstra and more. However, one name who was pitched for the faction would end up rejecting the idea.
While speaking to Going Ringside in a new interview, Elijah Burke recalled rejecting the pitch, ‘catching some flack’ for doing so.
“Some people do know I ended up doing announcing for WWE as well, as well as TNA. But yeah, so Vince brings me in. That don’t work out. He sends me back. Now he’s gonna bring me back as a member of the Spirit Squad, and I rejected it. Yeah, I caught some flack.”
Burke would continue, explaining his reasoning for turning down the idea.
“So those guys were so athletic. I wasn’t comfortable running down a ramp, jumping on a trampoline, going over top rope, and then also, I didn’t want to be, for any South Park fans, I didn’t want to be Token.”
Elsewhere in another previous interview, Burke spoke about working for Vince McMahon and Dixie Carter. You can read more about that here.
