JDC Explains Why He Selected Eddie Edwards To Be His Opponent For Retirement Match At TNA Genesis

JDC’s final match of his career.
One of the bouts advertised for TNA Wrestling’s Genesis pay-per-view on January 17th is Eddie Edwards versus J.D.C. (Johnny Dango Curtis) in what will be the final match of JDC’s career.
The former Fandango is wrapping up his 26-year career. He spoke about that and more while appearing on the Battleground Podcast. JDC explained why he selected Eddie Edwards to be his final opponent.
“We started together up in Boston probably 20, 22 years ago. I ended up going the WWE route. Eddie (Edwards) went to Japan. Every year we do WrestleMania, Eddie would be in town for ROH or some other Comic-Con gimmick or whatever so we’d catch up every year and it’s just full circle. I wanna end my career on a serious note. Eddie’s probably one of the, if not the best wrestler on the roster, and when you play a comedy character for so long, sometimes you feel like you got something to prove, like I do. I take wrestling very seriously, and I just don’t want people to remember me for Kramer. Busting through the door, you know what I’m saying? I don’t wanna be remembered for the dance. I wanna be remembered and respected for being a good wrestler, because that’s why I got into the business and I can’t think of anybody better to work than one of my best friends. I went to management and I go, ‘I want Eddie for the last match.’ They’re like, ‘You got it…’ It’s gonna be an emotional weekend, for me and the guys, and The System, but full circle. It’s just full circle. We started together. We went on different paths and we came back together and I’m gonna end it with them so, yeah, you can’t write it. You can’t write this sh*t.”
The backend of JDC’s time in wrestling featured him as a member of The System faction in TNA. The group has been teasing adding a new member once JDC is officially retired.
