The Undertaker Learns The Truth Of Why His 1990 Meeting With Vince McMahon Was Postponed
The Undertaker went by Mean Mark in WCW, though he was told that he would never be a draw, leading to him seeking options elsewhere.
Bruce Prichard and Paul Heyman were fans of his work in WCW, and Prichard wanted him in WWE. A meeting was set up with Vince McMahon, who agreed to watch his match against Lex Luger at Great American Bash 1990.
The match wasn’t good, Vince wasn’t impressed, and the meeting was postponed.
On Six Feet Under, the Undertaker learned the truth of what really happened with his meeting.
Bruce Prichard: I was at Randy Savage’s house. The next day, we’re in the pool. Calls come in. ‘Uh huh. Yes sir. No….good God, he was working with Luger. Please! Give him a break!’ Then, I find out you’re working with a bad hip. I said, ‘With a bad hip, he was still better than Luger.’ Vince was like, ‘Ah, he’s just a tall red-headed basketball player. They are a dime a dozen.’ ‘He’s not a dime a dozen. You didn’t get to see everything he can do. Did I mention he’s working with Luger?’ It was not a good match
Undertaker: No.
Prichard: Still, I felt there was enough shown and enough there and I could give him a million tapes better than that, he just happened to see that one, and first impressions. I had to call you and postpone the meeting.
Taker: After all these years, this has only been the past few years where I actually find out the truth. All these years, I think the meeting is postponed because Brutus Beefcake has a horrible parasailing accident where he got his face crushed. You probably told me that was the reason.
Prichard: I might have.
Taker: That is guilt! All these years, I thought that was the reason the meeting was canceled.
Prichard: It probably contributed to the meeting being postponed. Not canceled.
Taker: I think the meeting was postponed before the accident. All these years, as I’m telling my story, ‘Beefcake has this horrible accident and my meeting gets postponed.’ That was my truth for all these years. You have now informed me that the old man [Vince] was not impressed and he canceled the meeting.
Prichard: But, it’s a happy ending.
It was a happy ending for the Undertaker and WWE as he would debut for the promotion at Survivor Series 1990, kicking off his 30-year career with the company.
