MJF Says Alec Price Reminds Him Of Himself, Believes Indie Wrestling Is Currently More Important Than It’s Ever Been

MJF wants to put a spotlight on the world of independent wrestling.

Limitless Wrestling will welcome back MJF on Friday, January 16, as the AEW World Champion will defend his belt against Alec Price. This will be MJF’s first match for the promotion since September 2019.

Speaking with Justin Barrasso of Undisputed for a new interview, MJF spoke about the current state of the independent scene and how some wrestlers are being taken advantage of.

“There are young guys who are taken advantage of on the indie scene. Promoters are telling them they can’t lose, or they can’t wrestle here, that they can’t do this and they can’t do that. I came up in the industry when there were zero restrictions on the indie scene. I got to share locker rooms with guys who are now world champions and world-class coaches, whether that be in AEW, WWE, or TNA. That was an incredible learning experience.”

Still, MJF believes that indie wrestling is more important that it has ever been before.

“Independent professional wrestling is now more important than it’s ever been. I’ve seen a lot of these guys and gals come into major wrestling promotions, and they look greener than Luchasaurus’ shit-stained underwear. I look at a guy like Alec Price, who was just starting to get hot when I was getting out of the independent scene, and I could see right away that the guy could talk and he could wrestle. I love his tag partner Jordan Oliver, too. But Alec, he was smaller than my fucking left calf. Now he put on size, and he’s added even more attitude and charisma.”

To finish off the topic, MJF noted that Alec Price reminds him of himself.

“Because of my time in independent professional wrestling, by the time I was on AEW television, I was a seasoned fucking ring general. People weren’t accustomed to a guy who could wrestle and talk as well as I could. One of the reasons I admire Alec, and one of the reasons I want to get in the ring with him, is that he reminds me of me. Do I think he’s going to beat me and become world champion? Fucking doubtful. I’m excited to humble him and all the people in Maine who think otherwise. As one of the all-time greats said, the cream always rises to the top. We’ll find out if Alec Price is light cream or if he’s heavy cream this Friday against me.”
