In the lead up to his SummerSlam tag team match last year, Jelly Roll would take the opportunity seriously, shedding a lot of weight before the bout and training at the WWE Performance Center after moving to Orlando.

In the fourth episode of WWE: Unreal’s second season, Triple H spoke in the writer’s room about seeing footage of the musician in the ring, noting he was reminded of Dusty Rhodes.

“Yeah, but I mean like, literally, they worked out for an hour or two, and then he did, like; the first five minutes of the match. He’s pretty good. He was bouncing around the other day in between shit, and he was throwing jabs, and I was like, ‘this motherfucker’s Dusty (Rhodes). He’s a like a sloppier version of Dusty.’ He would get up, he’d get knocked down and he’d get up and do the dance around, bounce around shit and I thought ‘Goddamn, there could be something there’.”

Elsewhere in the same episode, Jelly Roll spoke about how getting a celebrity wrestling match was his ‘north star’ when he began to become famous. You can read more about that here.
