Stevie Richards Critiques TNA on AMC Debut and Genesis: Why Would I Buy The PPV When You Just Gave Me The Match For Free?
Stevie Richards, or Dr. Stevie as TNA fans may know him, didn’t hold back on his thoughts of TNA’s debut on AMC or their Genesis PPV.
“They were trying to sell a PPV and have a debut right before that. I would almost think that after Genesis, that’s when the new era should start,” Richards said.
The company debuted on AMC for Thursday Night iMPACT on January 15 then went live on PPV for Genesis on January 17. There wasn’t a lot of breathing room, and Richards believed their AMC debut should’ve taken place this week instead.
He added, “You want people to be emotionally invested and take it on the weekly episodic ride. Then you ask them, hey, this is worth paying month for because of all these weeks. You can’t say, here’s the debut episode, and by the way can you give us money three days from now? Then they’re like, well I’m not watching episode two and I’m definitely not buying the PPV. And why would I buy the PPV when you just gave me the match for free?”
The inaugural episode on AMC averaged just under 175,000 viewers. The ratings for their second episode have yet to be revealed.
