Deonna Purrazzo comments on the Highlands Act in Jefferson Township, New Jersey.
Purrazzo is a professional wrestler who takes her notoriety in the industry and uses it to amplify causes that she believes in, and now has discussed The Highlands act and how it effects her hometown of Jefferson Township, New Jersey.
While speaking in a new Instagram post, Deonna Purrazzo spoke about The Highlands Act, noting that environmental protection shouldn’t come at the expense of the children of Jefferson Township.
“Here’s something you all might not know about me. When I go to the ring, I’m billed from Hackettstown, New Jersey, but I actually grew up in Jefferson Township. I played sports in Jefferson, I graduated in 2012 from Jefferson, and ultimately the community of teachers, mentors, and peers that I had in Jefferson allowed me to become a multi-time world champion professional wrestler, and right now Jefferson and the surrounding Highlands towns are fighting for the livelihoods of their towns, all because the restrictions placed upon them by the Highlands Act. The Highlands Act placed restrictions on towns like Jefferson Township because they provide clean drinking water to millions of New Jerseyans. But at the same time, those restrictions are limiting growth, opportunity, and most importantly, funding for the public schools of Jefferson Township. Now, I know that environmental protection is important, but at the same time, it should not come at the expense of the children of Jefferson Township’s future. So I’m asking all of you today, how do we protect our environment, but also ensure equal opportunity for the children of Jefferson Township? I’m currently working with local leaders and administrators to continue this conversation, and I’m so excited to head back to J-town soon to see how else I can use my voice to save the town that raised me.”
